Religious Poems

Dear Saviour, I am as the "barren tree,"
Unworthy of the love Thou givest me;
And yet, oh, Lord, a little longer spare!
A little longer keep me in Thy care!
Forbear to say, "Why cumbers it the ground?"
But let Thy love continue to abound.
Let heavenly grace within mine heart take root,
Spring up, and bear, through Thee, abundant fruit.
I know that Thou for years hast sheltered me,
I feel my deep indebtedness to Thee:
So spare me yet a little longer, Lord,
To grow in grace and beauty thro' Thy Word;
Ah! then, perchance, ere long the barren tree,
The richest of Thy fruits shall render Thee.

The broken-hearted, crouching ’neath Thy rod,
He waits Thee, night and day, O jealous God.
Gripped like a bird within its captor’s fingers,
And crushed to dust, I groan beyond all bearing.

Jesus is the one I pray to.
Just what can this man, Jesus, do?

He can move mountains with a wave of His hand.
He can part the seas and lay bare the land.

He can open the gates of Hell.
He can do anything but fail.

He can forgive us of our sins.
He can make us feel whole again.

A little church is standing all alone.
In a small coal mining town.

People had to leave their homes.
Because the coal mines shut down.

The church is waiting in welcome.
But nobody goes there to pray.

It appears to be just a skeleton.
For all it's worshippers are away.

We thank you, oh Lord, on this Thanksgiving Day.
For the many sacrifices You were forced to pay.

You taught us by Your sharing and giving.
We can build a better world for those still living.

We thank You for the blessings You have bestowed.
On we Americans who are living down here below.

We live in a place were freedom abounds.
But there are those who wish to tear it down.

We do not see the wind,
We only hear it sigh;

It makes the grasses bend.
whenever it goes by.

We do not see God's love,
But in our hearts we know.

He watches over us.
Wherever we may go.

There will be a brighter tomorrow someday
I'll look up and the clouds will move away
And when I hear that trumpet's loud blast
I will know that Jesus has returned at last.

The Light that gloweth in the sky
And shimmers in the sea
That quivers in the painted fly
And gems the pictured lea
The million hues of Heaven above
And Earth below are one
And every lightful eye doth love
The primal light, the Sun.

God sometimes brings us to a place
where answers can't be found...
Where we cannot see tomorrow,
for confusion all around.

The things I should have said,
The feelings I should have shown.
I kept them all inside,
From them now I have grown.

I know your hurts
I know your pain
But just turn to me and they will fade
I know your doubts
I know your fears

That I may not in blindness grope,
But that I may with vision clear
Know when to speak a word of hope
Or add a little wholesome cheer.

The Master cried
It liveth breatheth see!
Its soft lips open wide
It looks from side to side
How strange they gleam on me
The little dim eyes of the Tree!

Hear my prayer O heavenly Father
Ere I lay me down to sleep
Bid Thy angels pure and holy
Round my bed their vigil keep.
My sins are heavy but Thy mercy
Far outweighs them every one.

His love for us was so great and true
He gave His life for me and you
He died for us so brave and bold
He died to save our very souls
Other loves are like a summer flower
They blossom for awhile then they are not there
But His love lingers as the ages roll on
His love continues long after the others are gone

Say Heav'nly Muse shall not thy sacred vein
Afford a present to the Infant God?
Hast thou no verse no hymn or solemn strain
To welcome him to this his new abode
Now while the heav'n by the Sun's team untrod
Hath took no print of the approaching light
And all the spangled host keep watch in squadrons bright?

*****************

Four little angels slipped out of heaven one day
To look through God's Kingdom for a new place to play.
They marveled at stars and the wonders of space
But continued to search for their own special place.
Then lo and behold to disrupt their mirth
Suddenly appeared the blue planet Earth.
