He kindly stopped for me
The Carriage held but just Ourselves
And Immortality.
We slowly drove--He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labour and my leisure too
For His Civility

Sleep bringz no strength 2 me,
No power renewed 2 brave;
I sail on a wilder sea,
A darker wave.
Sleep brings no friend 2 me,
2 soothe & aid 2 bear;
They all gaze on, how scornfully,
& how I despair.
Sleep brings not wish 2 fret,
My stressed heart beneath;
My only wish is 2 forget,
In the endless sleep of death.
